大磯は美しい松並木をはじめ今も旧東海道の風情を多く残している。大磯の浜辺は古より“こゆるぎの浜”と呼ばれ、万葉集にも詠まれた風光明媚な歌枕の地。明治時代に鉄道が開通すると海水浴場（日本初という）や明治の元勲などの別荘地として栄えた。大磯は穏やかな気候から湘南発祥の地と言われ、曽我兄弟の兄の十郎と恋仲となった虎御前ゆかりの地など名跡も多い。浜辺で往時に思いを馳せた。
